The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking an Executive Director, Business Information Technology to lead the strategic management and optimization of business information products, platforms, applications, and related technologies. The Executive Director will oversee the full application lifecycle for digital solutions that enhance productivity, collaboration, financial management, and HR processes across the university. Additionally, this leader will be responsible for leading technical staff who configure and develop, monitor, and optimize several large, complex administrative applications, ensuring their effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with the university's business needs and goals. This leader will be responsible for the product management of business information solutions, collaborating closely with diverse stakeholders across the university to align technology services with evolving business needs, creating a suite of integrated digital tools that amplify efficiency and user experience. This leader plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of innovation and user-centricity, sculpting a seamless digital ecosystem that elevates the university's business landscape.

Department Summary

Business Information Technology sets the strategy for a portfolio of enterprise-wide products and platforms enabling the activities of administrative stakeholders across the university. The Business Information Technology team designs, develops, configures, enhances, optimizes, and maintains core enterprise technologies ensuring functionality, quality, business value, user-experience, and digital accessibility of the products and platforms meet the expectations of the campus community. Business Information Technology fuels ITS’ cloud-first strategy by strategically reducing technical debt in partnership with other departments and teams leveraging cutting-edge techniques to accelerate releases using automation and application lifecycle management standards and tools.

Product/Application/Technology Development and Management Oversight

  1. Develops and executes a comprehensive technology strategy for business information and administrative products, platforms, and systems, aligning technology with the university's business objectives and operations.
  2. Orchestrates the transformative journey from a traditional IT application services model to a future-facing, product model.
  3. Oversees the Business Information Technology team, providing strategic leadership and guidance to a team responsible for configuring, monitoring, and optimizing administrative applications, including those that enhance productivity, collaboration, financial management, and HR processes.
  4. Collaborates closely with university stakeholders to understand their evolving needs and align technology services accordingly.
  5. Develops and manages the budget for the Business Information Technology department, ensuring effective allocation of resources and cost optimization.
  6. Ensures compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and security standards in the implementation and management of administrative applications.
  7. Ensures the adoption of standard product methodologies and standard application development tooling to support management of products and platforms at scale while maintaining a high-degree of quality.

  3. Develops formal project plans for complex projects that include interdisciplinary teams; conducts resource planning, work estimation, and oversees related interdependencies; may oversee and/or develop master project plans.
